Palm Utilities to implement Integrated Management System with support from Business Excellence Center

Dubai World consulting arm to provide support and consultancy for four-stage project implementation

Palm Utilities (PU), the water and district cooling utility services provider established by government-owned investment firm Istithmar, a major investment holding and part of the Dubai World group of companies, has announced that it will receive support and consultancy on the implementation of its Integrated Management System (IMS) from Business Excellence Center (BEC), the consulting arm of Dubai World.

Palm Utilities will coordinate with BEC to implement the IMS in four stages: determination of requirements and detailed planning; designing of the management system; planning system execution; and reviewing and providing business support. The final IMS will be compliant with and certified by ISO: 9000; ISO 14001:2004; and OHSAS 18001:2007.

“We are confident that through BEC’s support, Palm Utilities will be able to considerably enhance its competitiveness. An IMS will help us establish an upgradeable documented management system that will identify objectives and functionalities within our Palm Water (PW) and Pam District Cooling (PDC) units; this system will also provide compliance and financial risk management capabilities  that will definitely give us a market edge,” said Keith Levers, Chief Executive Officer, Palm Utilities.

The planned IMS will be the cornerstone for operations monitoring at Palm Utilities business unit, as it will observe performance indicators and operational documentation throughout the units. PW has been a provider of water utility services to several major Dubai developments since 2005; it is also involved in projects related to seawater desalination plants and commercial, municipal and industrial water treatment plants. PDC, on the other hand, is a global leader in the production and distribution of temperature-controlled chilled water for residential and commercial air conditioning.

Palm Utilities, through PDC and PW, has been established to address the region's unique requirements in the distinctly critical areas of cooling and water. Palm Utilities has implemented a comprehensive expansion program and intends to pursue new core business activities within other utilities, including sustainable energy and environmental waste management.
