The Arab League Tobacco-Control Committee has approved a UAE initiative to observe an Arab Anti-Tobacco Week next year under the motto, "Healthy Arab means smoking-free environment", Khaleej Times reported Wednesday.
The committee held its annual meeting in Cairo, Egypt, last week and discussed ways to control the increasing number of smokers in the Arab world, the daily said.
The United Arab Emirates has proposed pan-Arab action in fighting smoking, particularly among youth, according to the newspaper, quoting Bassam Abi Saab, community health specialist and member in the delegation, as saying that the committee approved the UAE proposal for the anti-tobacco week which would feature a wide range of activities.
According to the daily, the committee will produce a documentary film about the health, social and economic risks of smoking to be distributed and screened in all Arab countries - Albawaba.com
