More than 1,000 people marched in an anti-Israeli demonstration in downtown Amman on Friday while nearly the same number attended a Palestinian solidarity rally organized by Islamists, witnesses and the Petra news agency reported.
Protesters, estimated at around 1,500 by Petra, marched from the Al-Hussein mosque down King Talal Street in Amman's old city after weekly prayers, chanting slogans in support of the Palestinian Intifada against Israel.
The agency said the marchers dispersed peacefully after a short walk, during which they held up Palestinian and Jordanian flags.
Meanwhile around 1,000 people gathered at Al-Nasr refugee camp near downtown Amman at the invitation of the Muslim Brotherhood to hear several speakers denounce Israeli "aggression."
The two-hour rally was punctuated by anti-Israeli chants, in which the Jewish state was described as "our only enemy," witnesses said.
