Penetrating new market segments by offering differentiated services

Majan telecommunication unveils new brand identity ‘renna’

With the much anticipated announcement of the first Mobile Resellers last week by Oman Mobile, Majan Telecommunication unveiled its new brand identity ‘renna’ in a special press briefing held at The Chedi, Muscat where CEO Niklas Nielsen reiterated the Company’s promise to create value in the industry and contribute to the growth and development of the telecommunications landscape in the Sultanate. With the Reseller Agreement now in place, Majan Telecommunication will be able to resell mobile services under the ‘renna’ brand name offering its own tariff plans and packages and through their own marketing and dedicated sales channels.

“This is a landmark directive by the TRA that has positioned the Sultanate as a pioneer in the telecommunications industry in the Middle East and we are delighted to be the first reseller in the region,” expressed Ghada Mohammed Al Yousef, Director of Majan Telecommunication (renna). “We wish to thank Oman Mobile for entrusting Majan Telecommunication and for their partnership. Our aim is to become the best alternative communications provider in Oman and the region to make a positive impact on our host operator and the local community.”

She added, “On behalf of the Board of Directors, I wish to express our gratitude and appreciation to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said for his wise leadership and guidance that has flourished prosperity in the telecommunications sector in addition to all sectors of our country.”

The new brand name ‘renna’ is inspired by the Arabic word meaning ringtone. Developed by Omani-based creative boutique agency, Reality CG, the brand mark is an interpretation of the Doppler Effect, a physical phenomenon that illustrates ‘sound in motion’. It emphasises the ability to talk more on the move and connects the logo to a rich concept based on the direct benefits of mobile telephony. The modern and progressive nature of the logo clearly underscores the ethos of the Company.

“The logo expresses the journey we want our customers to experience, one of valued offerings, pleasant surprises and easy connectivity. We like to think of it as a circle of trust with our people and enable them to talk more with real confidence,” stated Niklas Nielsen, Chief Executive Officer of renna.

“Red has been selected as the primary colour of renna and reflects our passion and competitiveness, two core values of the Company. As the national colour of Oman, red also emphasises our commitment to serve the nation and share its proud origins,” added Nielsen.

On the Company’s strategic direction, Nielsen said, “We will penetrate specific under-served market segments by offering differentiated services that are easy, efficient and economical. We are therefore focusing entirely on managing customer needs and on what matters most. Based on extensive market research, this no frills approach will be a welcomed alternative to the available products and services in the market and one that will bode well with our target segments.”

He added, “We believe in the freedom to talk and view ourselves as enablers for people to ‘Share the Moment’ through mobile telephony. We are empowering people who value relationships and care about keeping in touch by providing instant quality connectivity and value.”

Nielsen went on to say that the Company will establish its own customer service and call center and has already tied-up with a number of key Omani and international players in order to enhance its distribution capabilities as well as renna’s value proposition. renna SIM cards and recharge cards will be available through an expansive network throughout the Sultanate. An in-depth study has been conducted to gauge customer feedback on pricing, packages, services and distribution to support the design of specific packages. Throughout, renna will adopt a clear communications strategy to ensure simple and transparent communications with customers.

renna is a 100% Omani owned company and is backed by some of the most prominent and well known players in the Omani market, most notably Al Yousef Group, and a world class team of telecom professionals. Together, they bring a decade of executive level experience with an intimate understanding of the local market coupled with best international practices in this field. The Company is fully committed to continuously investing to build human capacity and create career opportunities for highly-qualified Omani nationals.
