One of Dubai’s most popular youth sports events is back, and this year it’s bigger than ever. Dubai Refreshments Company (DRC), the sole franchisee and distributor of PepsiCo products in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, will stage the Pepsi Sport Fiesta (PSF) for a third consecutive year.
Held at Dubai Global Village, the Pepsi Sport Fiesta is made up of football, basketball and cricket tournaments. But this year’s fiesta will run for fourth months instead of just for the four weeks of the Dubai Shopping Festival, which Pepsi has sponsored for the last 10 years.
More than 10,000 amateur sports fans are expected to take part, aged 11 upwards. Cricket gets the action started in mid-November, followed by basketball and football tournaments from December.
May El-Labban, Marketing Projects Manager, DRC, said: “Pepsi and sport go together in Dubai, and it just wouldn’t be the same without the Pepsi Sport Fiesta. The growing popularity of the event has given us the perfect excuse to extend the fiesta, and we’re delighted so many more sports mad youngsters will have the opportunity to take part.”
El-Labban added: “The fiesta encourages active lifestyles among young people, which is hugely important, and it’s increasingly an established part of the Dubai community scene, bringing together schools and colleges, and young professionals looking for an excuse to pad up, lace up or shoot hoops on the basketball court. It also welcomes the involvement of other corporate sponsors, both local and multinational, and we’re grateful once again for their valuable support.”
Live music, dance shows and prize giveaways are also on the cards besides all the great sporting action at Dubai Global Village.
May El-Labban, Marketing Projects Manager, DRC, said: “Although there’s a strong competitive element to the fiesta, it’s all about fun, sportsmanship, and team spirit; that’s the essence of what we want to achieve. From the start, the Pepsi Sports Fiesta received a fantastic response, and we’re confident this year’s event will be both bigger and better.”
The Pepsi Sports Fiesta is sponsored by HUM and UAQ FM, Emirates 1FM, Giordano, Wild Wadi, Athletes foot, Chevrolet, Tattoo and General Motors.
