Israelis and Palestinians have drawn up a timetable to end weeks of violence and get back to normal relations, former Israeli prime minister and Nobel peace laureate Shimon Peres said Thursday.

Peres was speaking on Israeli public radio after overnight talks with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat which Prime Minister Ehud Barak's office said had produced a deal.

"Under this agreement on ending the violence, if after two days there are no shootings or burials, a new situation will have been created which will enable us to talk about normalizing relations," Peres said.

This would include lifting the Israeli blockade on the Palestinian territories and allowing free movement, and resuming peace negotiations, he added.

Israeli Aarab member of parliament Ahmed Tibi, a former Arafat adviser, said the aim of the agreement was to achieve calm over the next two days – JERUSALEM (AFP)
