Wimbledon winners Pete Sampras and Venus Williams are among the list of players set for the United States Olympic tennis team based on rankings released Monday.

A final announcement of the exact roster, which could change due to injury or refusals, will be made within three weeks, the US Tennis Association said in a news release Monday.

No more than four men and three women will play in the singles draw of 64, while both men's and women's doubles duos will be named to the 32-duo draw.

On the women's side, second-ranked Lindsay Davenport, number three Venus Williams and sixth-ranked Monica Seles appear set for the singles spots.

Seventh-rated Serena Williams just missed out in the singles chase but could team with her sister Venus as they did to win the Wimbledon women's doubles title.

On the men's side, Sampras and Andre Agassi led the way with Michael Chang next, and Todd Martin taking the final US singles spot.

A separate men's doubles team could be named, unlike women's play where only a total of four women are eligible - (AFP)
