In a statement to Albawaba.com from Damascus, a top official at the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) denied his party had any link with the attacks on US targets in which thousands have been killed and injured Tuesday.

The Palestinian movement’s politburo member Maher Taher said over phone that his group among all the Palestinian nationalist and Islamist forces “are struggling on their national soil,” and that “our battle is against the Zionist enemy,” not the American people.

Taher accused Israeli intelligence of working to “pin blame on Palestinian groups for malicious purposes.”

The official was hinting to a statement to Al Jazeera satellite channel by an anonymous caller claiming to be a member of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP), saying the movement took responsibility for the attacks.

But the movement immediately brushed off the allegation as baseless.

Asked about another claim for responsibility by the Japanese Red Army, Taher ruled out that the communist group carried out the attacks. “But this question should be addressed to the JRA,” he concluded.
