The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), has rejected in a statement reported secret talks between the Palestinian Authority and the Israeli government.

In the statement, received via e-mail by Albawaba.com here, the opposition Palestinian group described Israel’s plan to open channels with the PA leadership as “a new Zionist trick to save the Israeli government from the dilemma it has found itself in due to escalating Intifada, and to skirt around the Palestinian demand of international protection.”

Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres has recently announced that he has had a green light from Prime Minsiter Ariel Sharon to start talks of a cease-fire with Palestinian leaders. However, he said Monday that a date has not been defined to meet Palestinian President Yasser Arafat.

There are also reports that Arafat and his aides have redfused to meet the minister, which Peres denied in an interview with Israel Radio.

The PFLP said that Peres’s announcement came parallel to his government statement that its policy of assassination and an economic and military siege on the Palestinian lands would continue.

The group criticized the US for stopping an international resolution stipulating that an observer force be sent to the Palestinian territories.

The statement finally called on the Palestenian Authority to close all channels of negotiationsw with the Jewish state – Albawaba.com
