P&G Arabian Peninsula (AP) represented by Modern Products Company (Jeddah) & Modern Industries Company (Dammam), which produces a number of superior quality products that improve the lives of consumers every day, was yesterday recognised for its commitment to employees, after winning the ‘Kingdom Employer of the Year’ award for the private sector, at the Kingdom Human Assets Expansion Awards and gathering. The award seeks to distinguish the organisation that has made the biggest strides to assemble a complete and fully-functioning workplace.
P&G’s demonstration of excellence in human resources came through multiple systems supporting its employees to perform at their peak to provide superior quality products and services that improves the lives of its consumers. Two key human resources initiatives to highlight from these HR systems are: the ‘Manager/ Employee Relationships’ initiative and the ‘Employee Wellness’ initiative, impressed an independent panel of judges selected from the Middle East’s HR and business community. The initiatives were found to show excellence in HR strategy and management and to have had a positive business impact. The panel also found that the initiatives were effective solutions/strategies for the organisation; they were innovative and creative, and worked to build strong relationships with employees across all levels of the organisation.
The ‘Manager/Employee Relationships’ initiative, include a comprehensive program aiming to improve employee performance and in turn the company’s – as employees and managers ‘tango’ together; through quarterly performance reviews, career planning, annual performance appraisals and through a strong coaching environment with the focus on continuous feedback both ways.
The second initiative that found favour with the judges was the ‘Employee Wellness’ initiative, which incorporates six elements to ensure that staff are happy, healthy and committed members of the P&G community. Staff members are offered health and nutrition advice, fitness and exercise classes, ergonomics training, medical check-ups, rest and relaxation through weekly classes, and fun entertainment initiatives that demonstrates employees are the company’s most assets.
Collecting the prestigious award on behalf of P&G, Mr. Fahad Al-Abdulkareem, HR Regional Director, P&G Arabian Peninsula said: “We are thrilled to be the very first ‘Kingdom Employer of the Year’ award winner at this newly-created forum, which recognises hard work and excellence in the field of HR in the Kingdom.”

During the event, Al-Abdulkareem also gave his thoughts to the attendees on the topic of ‘Strategies for improving recruitment and employee retention across the business’. Among the subjects that he covered were the challenges facing HR practitioners in the region, the HR Journey from survival to prosperity, how organisations can turn the HR function into a source of competitive advantage, and why today is the best time to be in HR.
The Kingdom Human Assets Expansion Awards have been designed to honour and recognise individuals and organisations that have demonstrated excellence in both HR functions and practices throughout the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Awards' vision is to bring KSA's HR community together.
