Following the success of last year’s inaugural Physio Dubai conference, the city will host a sequel in 2008.
The announcement coincides with the Emirates Physiotherapy Society (EPS) being accepted for full membership of the World Confederation for Physical Therapy (WCPT).
EPS and Dnata World of Events will stage Physio Dubai 2008 – the second International Emirates Physiotherapy Conference – on April 20 – 22, 2008, in partnership with the Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences.
The conference theme will be “Rehabilitation of Movement Dysfunction; A Physiotherapists’ Talent” and aims to contribute in raising the professional development of physiotherapists in the region.
Speakers will include leading international and regional experts who will address a large number of physiotherapists, rehabilitation and health care professionals, sports physicians, neurologists and neurosurgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, family physicians, medical specialists, and medical insurance representatives from around the region.
The conference will discuss current research and evidence-based practice in multidisciplinary therapeutic management at an academic, conceptual and clinical level, providing a forum to highlight the role of physiotherapy practice in various fields related to movement dysfunction.
“Since its inception, the Emirates Physiotherapy Society has been striving to raise academic knowledge and practices among UAE physiotherapy professionals, based on the latest international standards,” said EPS chairman Abduladheem Kamkar.
“Hosting such a significant international event for the second time is a major achievement in our overall objectives.
“Our full membership of the World Confederation for Physical Therapy should further enhance and support the efforts of EPS to achieve professional autonomy and improved standards for physiotherapists in the UAE.”
Kamkar stressed that the association’s partnership with Dnata World of Events in organising the inaugural conference resulted from Dnata’s role in making Physio Dubai 2006 such a resounding success.
Medhat Nassar, Manager Dnata World Of Events, said: “EPS’s latest achievement in joining the WCPT follows on from the huge success of last year’s Physio Dubai conference, which has established strong foundations for another outstanding event next year.
“We are very pleased join forces again with EPS to create a unique venue for practitioners to access the latest international developments in their field, and share their views and experiences with some of the most renowned international specialists in physical therapy.”
The conference will comprise more than 10 keynote lectures, 40 free paper sessions, 15 poster presentations, breakout clinical workshops and pre/post conference courses.
