The Islamic movement Hamas said that the Palestine National Authority (PNA) had released all political prisoners from jails and police stations in Gaza including two of its leaders, Ibrahim Maqadmeh and Abdel Aziz Rantisi.
The BBC radio quoted senior Hamas official, Ismael Abu Shanab as saying Palestinian police vacated all their stations and the jails in a move that led to the release of all political prisoners.
Qatar’s Al-Jezira satellite channel quoted a Hamas official in Nablus as saying that not a single Hamas prisoner remained in PNA jails. The official who was not identified said that the move is bound to bolster the Palestinian national unity.
