Kenyan police officials claim that Al-Shabab militants from Somalia hijacked a bus in northern Kenya and killed 28 non-Muslims on board, Associated Press reports.
The bus, heading toward Nairobi, was hijacked 50 kilometers from Mandera town, two police officers said. The militant gunman singled out non-Muslims and shot them to death.
The officers spoke to the Associated Press out of anonymity out of fear of reprisals. Kenya’s police chief ordered that officers not speak to the media.
After sending troops into Somalia in October 2011, Kenya has been plagued by gun and bomb attacks by Somalia’s Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabab militants. Authorities say there have been at least 135 attacks since then, including the Westgate Mall attack where 67 people were killed.
