Spanish police said Friday they arrested 17 Croatians suspected of having committed 29 burglaries in five days in the Santander region after having also broken into homes in Catalonia, Andalusia and Castellon.

The police caught two of the Croatian suspects red handed on Wednesday and later found the camping site of their compatriots and presumed accomplices -- all with invalid identification papers -- whom they arrested on Thursday.

During the operation, the police seized jewelry and other stolen objects as well as a screwdriver used to force open locks and windows of houses whose owners had gone on vacation, the national police said in a press release -- SANTANDER, Spain (AFP)
