In a poll released by Israel Radio Thursday, three out of five of those asked said they were in favor of the killing of Hamas military wing leader, Salah Shehade.

The majority of respondents supported the move despite the fact the assassination will likely bring about retaliatory attacks by Hamas. The telephone poll included 511 adult Israelis. One third were opposed to the action, saying that it would harm Israel's standing in the world.

On the question “After the fact, in light of the deaths of civilians and children in the operation to kill Shehade in Gaza, was the decision to carry out the operation?”, 60.4% said it was “justified” while 30.8% said it was “unjustified.” (No reply 8.8%).

On the question ”Was it correct to kill Shehade in Gaza in the midst of efforts to reach an agreement with Hamas for a halt to the attacks?” 70.2% of respondents said it was “correct decision” and 21.2% said it was “incorrect.” (Albawaba.com)
