President Michel Aoun on Sunday called on Lebanese politicians to pay attention to the events in the occupied Palestinian territories.

“We are celebrating the grand feast in which hope is renewed, and today we hope for Lebanon's rise and salvation,” said Aoun after meeting Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi in Bkirki during the Easter mass.

“We hope Jerusalem and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher will no longer face what we suffered in the past,” Aoun added, warning “should the Christian holy sites in Jerusalem come under (Israeli) control, the well that supplies the Christian world and spirit will dry up.”

“We do not want our churches to turn into touristic sites exclusively,” the president went on to say, urging Lebanese parties to “address what's happening in Palestine in their political stances.”
