Eight people were killed in three days of violence in Algeria which has been attributed to armed Islamists, press reports said Sunday.
Four Islamists were killed Thursday during an army search and sweep operation in the forest of Djebel Labiod at Tebessa, 630 kilometers (390 miles) east of Algiers. Two people were arrested and five weapons were also seized.
A civilian and community guard were shot at a road-block set up by an armed group at Meghraoua near Tablat, south east of Algiers.
The El Khabar daily reported another communal guard was killed Friday when a mine exploded at Zouia in Tlemcen, 600 kilometers (360 miles) west of the capital.
Many Algerian newspapers reported the shooting Saturday of a man leaving a mosque at Thenia, 50 kilometers (30 miles) east of Algiers.
Algeria's civil war has claimed at least 100,000 lives since 1992, when the army cancelled elections that the now outlawed Islamic Salvation Front (FIS) was certain to win -- ALGIERS (AFP)
