Eight people including three Islamic fighters were killed and six others injured in continuing violence blamed on Islamic rebels in Algeria on Friday and Saturday, press reports said.
A 27-year-old man and his 17-year-old sister had their throats cut by armed attackers Friday near Tipaza, 70 kilometers (50 miles) west of Algiers, newspapers said Sunday.
The victims' brother was shot but managed to escape, the papers added.
Two women were killed and two children injured Saturday when attackers threw a bomb into a house 70 kilometers (50 miles) south of Algiers, where the occupants were holding a party, the reports said.
On Friday, an armed group slit the throat of a young man at Bouhamdane in the Guelma region, 530 kilometers (320 miles) east of Algiers.
Three members of a civil defense group were injured Saturday in a gun battle with suspected Islamic fighters near Tiaret, 340 kilometers (204 miles) west of Algiers, the papers said.
