Foreign elements were involved in the violent clashes between reformist and conservative students Saturday in Tehran, which left at least ten people injured, the centrist Enteqab paper said Sunday.
"The agitation and tension, as well as the clashes and anti-revolutionary slogans, once again reveal the aim of our country's enemies in creating unrest and riots in Iran," the paper said.
"Yesterday's events prove that the origin of these unrests lies abroad and they are directed by foreigners," who, according to the paper, have "infiltrated" the student movements.
The paper gave no further details, but charged that "those who triggered the fighting were not all students."
The conservative Jomhuri Eslami paper called on the authorities to "identify, arrest and try the trouble-makers so that the people realize which people are (really) behind the tensions."
Dozens of people were injured and hundreds were arrested during Saturday's troubles which developed from a peaceful rally to mark the anniversary of violent clashes between students and police last year, which left three dead, according to official reports.
The leading reformist Iranian student group that organized the student rally, the Office of Unity and Consolidation, on Sunday rejected all responsibility for the violence.
"Our movement is not at all implicated in the incidents," the group announced in a statement printed in Sunday's press - TEHRAN (AFP)
