Prime Minister inaugurates Al Ashrafiyeh Cultural Social Center

Prime Minister, Samir Rifa'ie inaugurated on Monday (1/2/2010) Al Ashrafiyeh Cultural Social Center, implemented by Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) within an integrated system of developmental projects which GAM is executing.

Prime Minister toured the center's facilities and listened to a brief from Mayor of Amman, Omar Maani, about the importance of this center in publicizing the urban spaces among the housing neighborhoods, founding gardens and parks, and developing the locations of historical features in the area.

The new center will activate the cultural, social, and artistic life through various initiatives, be held by GAM or by the local community's activities.

The construction cost of the project, which is located in the surrounding area of Abu Darwish Mosque at Al Yarmouk in Al Ashrafiyeh, amounts to about 2 million JD, GAM will handle the management of this project which is being erected on a piece of land with a space area of 10.000 m2, and implemented in cooperation with the local community.

The project aims at activating the commercial movement, creating an attractive environment for tourism and shopping, maintaining the city’s remarks by improving the environmental situation, and increasing the green spaces, in addition to highlighting the mosque as an architectural and historical masterpiece with a beautiful view over Amman areas.

The project consists of three buildings of 4658 m2 space area; the first building has 17 stores with 372 m2, the second has a space area of 4200 m2 including a basement, parking lots, administration offices, electricity and mechanic chambers, and a ground floor with 8 stores and a big hall.

It also includes an integrated cultural center with two IT centers; one of them is devoted for the blind, in addition to a library, social services' facilities, two galleries, and an outdoor theatre.

The stone yards, the stadiums, decoration works, wooden benches, lighting, and parking lots that can hold 75 cars, do complement this modern and socially friendly center.
