Prime Minister, Samir Rifa’i, stressed during his visit to Greater Amman municipality (GAM) the importance of concerted efforts to promote the services rendered to the citizens, and facilitate their transactions at the different departments of GAM.
The Prime Minister ascertained the necessity to execute the projects aiming at improving the traffic situation of Amman by applying high quality services for the buses as well as the Metro project implementation, in presence of Mayor of Amman, GAM officials, and the Deputy Prime Minister, Raja’i M’asher.
He also referred to GAM’s role in supporting the governmental efforts to create attractive environment for local and foreign investments, noting to the significance of developing the methods used in managing investments to facilitate their flow into a flexible and smooth business environment.
He commended the efforts and procedures taken by GAM to make a radical move in the services’ level, especially the infrastructure, in addition to the future vision of Amman that pursue modernity and conserve at the same time the historical and political dimensions of the city. Mayor of Amman, Omar Maani, reviewed GAM’s achievements and projects that serve citizens, and improve services’ level to keep pace with the growth and development witnessed in Amman city.
The Mayor highlighted the City center development project, pointing out that Jabal Al-Qal’aa rehabilitation contributed to the beauty of Amman city, since it added to the place a great view, and enhanced its touristic position, as well as GAM’s project to rehabilitate the Hashemite Court and build social and entertainment facilities that echoes Al Seil Al Qadim (the old stream).
Omar Maani also clarified GAM’s efforts in developing the public transportation sector to come up with quick and radical solutions that should eliminate the problems of this vital sector.
As for the comprehensive planning, the Mayor mentioned that GAM finished the metropolitan plan of Amman for the next twenty years to be implemented within a developmental and executive framework based on participation and partnership.
He clarified that GAM’s plans to handle traffic issues and create smooth traffic movement in all Amman regions, referring to the importance of the junctions’ projects and their role in this matter.
In regard to the green and urbanized spaces, the Mayor indicated the resumption of King Abdullah II Park project in Al Mgabalein, which will provide a natural outdoor area to the residents of eastern Amman, as Al Hussein Park. GAM also rehabilitated and developed the urbanized spaces, such as Wakalat Street, Rainbow Street, and those around Abu Darweesh mosque in Ashrafiyeh district.
In the environment field, Mayor of Amman said that GAM is working on developing the idea of “Amman, a green city”, and recently a set of projects have been registered within the mechanism of the clean development process to reduce gas emissions into the atmosphere. GAM is also rehabilitating Ghabawi dumpsite with a cost reaching to USD 25 millions, to burn methane and generate electrical energy, which were used to be processed at Al Rseifeh dumpsite.
