The Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT) is currently hosting a workshop titled Economic Evaluation of the Environment. The workshop is held in cooperation with several environmental associations and NGOs including Ecosys @ inc, Sustainable Business Associates (SBA) ,the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), and the Royal Scientific Society (RSS). Held between July 23rd and July 27th 2006, the event aims to provide participants with opportunities to improve their research skills by learning the basics of compiling, analyzing, and processing data relevant to the environment at the micro, meso and macro levels.
The 5-day workshop allows participants, including professionals from ministries, universities, and other entities within the public and private sectors across the region, to take part in discussion panels and group exercises. Areas of discussion tackled during the event’s proceedings center around environmental and ecological principles, principles of environmental resource economics, property rights, pollution control, and environmental evaluation. Adding a practical side to workshop’s proceedings, participants are also to create a preliminary environmental economic profile for the Sahab Industrial estate in Amman. This strategy will be created based upon the topics discussed throughout the workshop–
"These environmental economic studies give tools for decision making and priority setting for future strategies and investments", said Prof. Pollet, professor at Geneva University, and president of Ecosys.
