ALBAWABA- The implementation of the prisoner exchange under the first phase of the “Al-Aqsa Flood” deal has begun, with Palestinian prisoners being transferred to the “Ofer” prison ahead of their release to the Palestinian side.
Buses carrying female prisoners departed from the Damon prison in Haifa under tight security, marking the start of their transfer to Ofer, west of Ramallah.
The Israeli Prison Service confirmed that 1,500 guards are involved in the operation. After political approval, the Red Cross will oversee the transfer of prisoners to release points.
Simultaneously, three Israeli prisoners—Romy Gonen, Emily Damari, and Doron Shtanbar Khair—are set to be handed over to the Red Cross at the Egyptian side of Rafah.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant visited the reception point for the returning Israeli prisoners, stating, "We will not stop the war until everyone returns home."
The Israeli Army Radio reported that the military has deployed select units along the Gaza border but could not confirm the exact timing for the Red Cross handover.
On the Palestinian side, the Prisoners’ Media Office noted that the Israeli occupation authorities have provided a list of 90 names of female and child prisoners expected to be released today, although they stated the initial list included 120 names.
Some homes of Jerusalemite prisoners on the list were reportedly stormed by Israeli forces ahead of their release.
U.S. President-elect Donald Trump commented on the exchange, claiming credit for brokering the ceasefire deal as part of his election campaign promises.
Trump previously criticized President Biden for taking credit, reiterating that the release of prisoners was part of his team’s efforts.
