According to AFP, the Syrian town of Sheikh Miskeen was overtaken Tuesday by pro-Assad forces after two weeks of fighting in the strategic town.
The town, which lies very close to the Jordanian border, was seized by regime troops and their allied forces from Hezbollah and Iran, and aided by airstrikes from Russia.
Seizure of the town was important as it sits at the crossroads between Damascus to the north and Sweida to the east, and only 12 kilometers (seven miles) from Nawa, another key rebel stronghold.
AFP also reported that Sheikh Miskeen was a major logistics and planning center for the opposition group, so the capture will cut one of their major supply routes and slowdown operations, continuing the Syrian army's plan to regain control of the mostly rebel-controlled Daraa province.
