Iranian youth demonstrated in the streets of Tehran for a sixth consecutive night as US President George W. Bush said the protests were a positive move on the road to freedom in Iran.
According to some reports, the demonstrations have spread to other cities. Gatherings by thousands of students and other people reported Sunday in the cities of Isfahan, Shiraz and Ahvaz in support of the Tehran protests.
Riot police surrounded the university Sunday night, warning militants not to storm the campus to attack demonstrators. Several gunshots were heard.
Meanwhile, Bush said the protests showed there was a yearning for freedom in Iran. "Freedom is a powerful incentive," Bush told reporters Sunday. "And it's the beginnings of people expressing themselves toward a free Iran, which I think is positive."
The Iranian government blames the United States for instigating the riots, and claimed that US support for the protests amounted to flagrant interference in Iran's affairs. (Albawaba.com)
