Protesters gathered in the streets of Tripoli on Sunday, demanding the disbanding of armed groups in the capital.
Reuters reported that a crowd of 300 people gathered in Algeria Square, in the city's center, carrying banners with slogans such as "No brigades, no militias, we want an army loyal to the state".
"Most of the problems in the city are caused by militias fighting for power", one of the organisers of the protest, Nasreldeen Abdullah, was quoted as saying to Reuters. "There have been robberies, violence and civilians killed for no reason. We are fed up with this".
Meanwhile the government said Sunday it was also trying to take back control of the Interior Ministry, which was run over by an armed group last Tuesday.
Electricity Minister Ali Mohammed Muhairiq told reporters "We are in constant communication... to end the siege and we hope this happens within two or three days".
Regarding plans to tackle the militias in the long-term, Mr Muhairiq added: "This is something that will take a long time, it can't be done in a day".
Armed groups have had a heavy presence in the city since Libya's war in 2011.
