Iran has no intention of developing nuclear arms, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday when asked if Moscow would suspend its nuclear cooperation with Tehran until tougher inetrnational controls are in place.

"President (Mohammad) Khatami called me two days ago and gave assurances that Iran has no plans to create nuclear weapons," Putin told a press conference in the Kremlin.

"Iran is ready to sign all neccessary documents with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)," IRIB quoted the Russian leader as saying.

Concerns are rising about Russia's construction of a nuclear power plant for Iran at Bushehr, and the United States has accused Tehran of using the technology to develop weapons of mass destruction .
