Qatar has started banning imports of cars made before 1990, reported the Gulf Times newspaper.
Trade officials said the move was part of GCC standardization measure.
There have been many instances of older vehicles being prevented from entering the country at the border check points and sea ports, the officials said.
The ban, however, does not apply to heavy vehicles like cranes, trailers and trucks, they told the paper.
“If anyone wants to bring in their cars they should get a prior approval from the ministry,” the official said.
The ban applies to all brands of cars.
In exceptional cases, older cars could be imported, but only with the approval of the ministry, the official said. It will be up to their discretion, he added – Albawaba.com
