Qatar is hosting a two-day conference, designed to raise money for development and reconstruction in Sudan's Darfur region, the BBC reported on Sunday.
The meeting is aiming to pull in $7.2 billion to help the embattled area of Sudan. So far the UK government has pledged £33 million ($50 million) to aid in the development project.
Around 300,000 people reportedly died during the ten years of conflict in Darfur, in which the Sudanese government is accused of crimes against humanity, including genocide.
The peace deal, signed in 2011 by Sudan, was supported by Qatar but most of the Sudanese rebel groups did not agree to it. Protests took place on Friday across Darfur in response to the conference.
Critics of the redevelopment strategy claim that the region is not yet secure enough to begin the process of reconstruction.
