Qatar Tourism and Exhibitions Authority’s executives participated in the 5th International conference on Tourism Statistics, organized by Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Government of Indonesia, with the cooperation of the International Labour Organization, the United Nations Statistics Division and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, the World Tourism Organisation. This conference about “Tourism : an engine for employment creation” took place in Bali from March 30 to April 2.
Mr. Mohammed Al-Ansari, Acting Head of Tourist Activities’ Licensing and Classification of Qatar Tourism and Exhibitions Authority and Mr. Jabor Al-Mohannadi, Head of Public and International Relations, attended this four day conference. They also expressed Qatar Tourism and Exhibitions Autority’s vision about the policy issues for employment in the tourism industries.
The first objective of the Bali Conference was to discuss the implementation of a number of key changes introduced last year to the existing framework of basic tourism statistics, including, among others, the relevance given to monetary variables, the reconciliation between demand and supply, and the identification of tourism in the balance of payment.
Another significant objective of the Bali Conference in 2009 was to address the issue of the
measurement and quality of employment in the tourism industries.
Case studies were presented during the Conference, referring to different types of applications, such as the measurement of the economic contributions of tourism, the use of tourism data for business and policy analysis, as well as tourism employment.
Mr Mohammed Al Ansari, Acting Head of Tourist Activities’ Licensing and Classification of Qatar Tourism and Exhibitions Authority, commented : “ This conference was very useful as a preparation to the UNWTO conference on the “Human Resource Challenge for Tourism in the Middle East” we will host on April 21st and 22nd in Doha. We raised several topics about employment issues in the tourism industries, which we will continue to discuss in Doha at the end of the month. Qatar strongly believes that sharing knowledge and experience is the best way to support this key economic factor for so many countries. And we are very pleased to contribute to this important dialogue for the global economy.”
On the sideline of the conference, Mr. Mohammed Al-Ansari, Acting Head of Tourist Activities’ Licensing and Classification of Qatar Tourism and Exhibitions Authority and Mr. Jabor Al-Mohannadi, Head of Public and International Relations, met with the Minister of Culture and Tourism of Republic of Indonesia, H.E. Jero Wacik, to review the tourism cooperation between the two countries.
