Qatar and Venezuela will open embassies in each other’s capitals in September, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Luis Alfonso Davila said after a visit by Qatar’s emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, reported the Gulf Times newspaper.
“The agreement was made that Qatar and Venezuela would name their ambassadors in the next few months,” Davila said.
Qatar has offered a piece of land upon which Venezuela can build its embassy in the emirate, while Venezuela is pondering the option of donating a house to Qatar for the same purpose, the minister said.
The emir, whose first meeting with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez was in Doha in October 1999, made a short visit to Caracas on Wednesday.
Chavez and the emir discussed pacts to develop gas resources during the hours-long visit, a theme already touched upon during Chavez’s visit to Qatar ahead of the OPEC summit last year, said the paper.
