Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi has held talks with Qatari Emir Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and sent a message to King Fahd of Saudi Arabia, news agencies said on Sunday.

Saudi Arabia has reportedly been mediating between Qatar and Libya after Tripoli recalled its ambassador from Doha in April in protest at a broadcast by the Qatar-based Al-Jazeera satellite TV criticizing the Libyan leadership.

The Saudi mediation aims to improve ties between the two Arab states before an Islamic summit which Doha is to host on November 12-14, the Qatari paper Al-Raya said in July.

Sheikh Hamad telephoned Kadhafi late Saturday to discuss relations between two countries and the situation in the Arab world, the official Qatari news agency QNA said.

The Saudi news agency SPA, meanwhile, said King Fahd received a message from Kadhafi in a meeting on Saturday with Libya's minister of African unity, Ali Abdel Salam Triki -- DOHA (AFP)
