Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Chairman of the ninth Islamic Summit, has sent letters to the heads of the Permanent member states of the United Nations Security Council, the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and Pope John Paul of the Vatican.
The official Qatar News Agency reported that the letters focused on the "grave developments and the deteriorating situation of the Palestinian people in the occupied territories".
The Qatari Emir, in addition, urged the Permanent member states of the UN Security Council, the UN Secretary General and Pope John Paul, to "exert their good offices to confront the continued aggression by the Israeli government against the Palestinian people and its violations in the occupied Palestinian and Arab lands", in particular measures to change the status and identity of the historical city of Al-Quds and its Christian and Islamic features, QNA further said.
