qstp techtalk takes a fresh look at wireless technology
Qatar Science & Technology Park sparked thought among telecoms experts and business professionals on Sunday night with its latest TECHtalk, titled Wireless technology: A Fresh Look into the Crystal Ball, at Doha’s Diplomatic Club.
Qatar University Chairman and Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering Dr. Adnan Abu-Dayya was guest speaker at the event, and raised several thought-provoking ideas. “Why is it 2007 and we still can't get onto the Internet anywhere, anytime, on any device?” was the question posed by the TECHtalk. “And when are "convergence", "3G" and "mobile TV" going to stop being buzzwords and start being tools we use every day?”
Having spent much of the past decade in charge of emerging technologies at AT&T Wireless, Dr. Adnan discussed his experiences in the world of wireless communication and his predictions for what will come next. One of these was machine-to-machine communications in which everyday objects like cars and refrigerators will be given mobile telephone numbers, not just our handsets.
More than 60 guests attended the TECHtalk. “I learned that there is a lot more to wireless technology than just mobile phones,” one attendee said. “I work in the oil and gas sector, an industry that will be utilising this technology in years to come. This is one of the reasons I came to this event – it’s my first TECHtalk, but I hope to attend more. On top of the knowledge and feedback from specialists, it’s also a great networking event.”
