An earthquake registering 5.4 on the Richter Scale -- strong enough to cause considerable damage -- shook the Leeward Islands, in the Caribbean, Friday evening, the earthquake monitoring center at Strasbourg, France, reported.
The epicenter of the shock was close to Antigua and Barbuda said the observatory.
The last major earthquake in the region was in March 1995 and registered 6.3 on the Richter scale, the observatory added.
The region was also hit by Cyclone George in September 1988 – STRASBOURG (AFP)
