Ras Al Khaimah, UAE – 25 April, 2010 – Ras Al Khaimah Free Trade Zone (RAK FTZ) is participating for the first time ever in the 10th edition of the Dubai Airport Show held from 25-27 April at the Airport Expo Dubai. Expected to attract double the number of participants and visitors than the previous year’s event, the Airport Show 2010 has already registered more than 80 key leaders in the industry and related fields, including representatives from the Doha International Airport (Qatar), Khartoum New International Airport (Sudan), Maharashtra Airport Development Co. Ltd. (Mumbai), and Cairo Airport Company (Egypt).

With a wide variety of decision makers and industry leaders in attendance, the Airport Show is an ideal venue for RAK FTZ to introduce its products and services, an opportunity that RAK FTZ CEO Oussama El Omari is confident will produce positive results.

“This year, we are looking at a 15 per cent increase in registration with approximately 2,250 additional companies. We plan to strengthen our positioning as a business hub geared at helping SMEs to connect to emerging economies, target new key markets like South Africa and Russia, and continue to improve our products and services,” he shared.

He further emphasised the growing need for alternative business solutions in the wake of the global financial crisis as evidenced by the increasing number of companies registering at RAK FTZ. “Year on year we see an increase in revenue and registration despite the crisis,” he explained and added, “as you know, the Middle East is projected, post recession, to remain one of the fastest growing regions in the world for revenue per passenger per kilometre and cargo traffic. In view of this increasing regional demand for aviation related industries, we plan to branch out to RAK International Airport by creating a specialised Aviation/MRO Park. The cornerstone of this park will be a Maintenance Repair and Overhaul centre (MRO) and we have received keen interest from some major players in the sector.”

In addition to the free zone’s long-established and affordable products and services, such as Business Centres, warehouses, cargo and port solutions, and educational facilities, the free zone plans to launch the Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) Park, which will service  corporate jets to medium range airliners, with an estimated investment of AED 730M. They will also open new international offices in the UK and Egypt and an additional Indian office in New Delhi and pursue further development of Saqr Port and RAK Airport through additional government investment.

Despite a number of choices in the market, RAK FTZ continues to attract new clients and keep existing ones through innovative solutions and a client-centred strategy in every step they take. “There are a number of free zones, yet despite being the youngest of them, we are the fastest growing. We have demonstrated a 360 degree approach to our clients, which has seen us and our clients expand even in the most difficult of times. We plan to extend the same holistic concept to the “RAK FTZ Aviation Park,” El Omari explained.

Established in the year 2000 under the patronage of HH Sheikh Faisal Bin Saqr Al Qassimi, its Chairman, the free zone is entering its milestone 10th anniversary this year. In its 10 years of operation, it has established four parks: Business Park, Technology Park, Industrial Park and Academy Zone and has become known as a reliable source of business solutions for international companies looking to expand in the Middle East region. Some of the free zone’s products and services are also accessible through the RAK FTZ promotional offices in Dubai and Abu Dhabi as well as its international liaison offices in India, Turkey, Germany, US and China.

“Customers are the major stakeholders in RAK FTZ’s success, and we are constantly striving to provide them with better business solutions, infrastructure, technology and support. We adopt a customer-centred approach and a 'can do' attitude,”  El Omari emphasised and added, “Innovation is a concept which RAK FTZ has adopted since its inception and every stakeholder is encouraged to think and act in new and creative ways that will lead to business excellence. We prepare for and embrace change because it allows us to grow and evolve. By accepting innovative business methods, we remain competitive and continue to provide the best enabling business environment to the investment community.”

RAK FTZ's proactive approach to reaching new markets and predicting client needs has earned RAK FTZ a variety of awards including ‘Best Emerging Free Zone’ three times by the Middle East Logistics Awards (MELA), ‘Industrial Area of the Year’ at the 2009 Supply Chain and Transport Awards (SCATA) and Best Website of a Free Zone or Export Processing Zone at the 9th World Free Zone Convention 2009.
