Rebel leader promises "fair trial" for Gaddafi

The President of the Libyan Transitional National Council (TNC) Mustafa Abdul Jalil, said Monday vowed to secure the country's interests flowing the downfall of Gaddafi's regime. During a press conference, he said the next phase would require the building of democracy on a sound footing.

"The era Gaddafi is over," he stressed. Regarding Moammar Gaddafi location he said, "We do not know his location at the moment." Jalil said: "We will give Gadhafi a fair trial; but I don't know how he will defend himself over his crimes.

Abdul Jalil urged everyone to exercise restraint and not to harm properties of others, whether they belong to Libyans or foreigners. He ended the press conference, saying: "I reject any violation of the law and I'm afraid the actions of some of the rebels deserve punishment."
