Registration starts for pepsi street football skills 2008

Challenge event kicks-off early next month in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Oman

PepsiCo International has commenced registration for its Pepsi Street Skills Challenge 2008 event, which will take place this year in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Oman.

“We are very enthusiastic about this year’s Pepsi Street Football Skills Challenge, said Ibrahim Binaquil, GCC Senior Brand Manager–Colas at PepsiCo International. “It is expected that more than 2000 youths will participate across the four countries and with so many contestants the event promises to be filled with thrills and excitement.”

Because of the huge number of young hopefuls who want to take part in the competition, PepsiCo International is providing a website for registration www.pepsiarabia.com in addition to the organizing company’s website www.axemevents.com

Applicants’ birthdates must be between December 1989 and January 1994 and they are required to complete a registration form which must be approved and signed by their parents. After registration, the player will be provided with a number, an ID card and a Pepsi Street Skils soccer jersey.

The competition, which is aimed at youths between 14 to 19 years of age, is a unique journey in search of the most outstanding young soccer skills in the four Gulf countries. The best players will be selected and will travel on a dream trip to Europe where they will meet Pepsi stars Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas in London, and Barcelona’s Thierry Henri and Lionel Andres Messi in Barcelona.

“The Pepsi Street Football Skills Challenge is the only event of its kind in the region,” continued Binaquil. “Special attention is paid to the level of perfection that the player has achieved in kicking and heading the ball, his speed, and his ability to improvise on the pitch with innovative movements. In addition, the personality of the player will also be taken into consideration.”

Pepsi Street Football Skills 2008 implements the highest standards of screening to select the best players, adopting techniques from last year’s challenge such as overcoming time and distance by using video for live communication between the players and the judges. A points system is used to evaluate the skills and capabilities of the contestants as they play in matches on private football fields measuring 40 x 30 meters.

“We are pleased and proud to support the enhancement of Gulf soccer skills,” concluded Binaquil. “With the Pepsi Street Skills Challenge, we are encouraging and motivating the region’s young players to show their skills and achieve a standard that could qualify them for a future career in professional football and enable them to compete at international level.”
