Over 250 guests gathered for the Renault-Trucks Desert Adventure at Jumeirah Bab Al Shams Desert Resort and Spa, to discover the complete Desert Range including Renault Trucks’ newest creation, the Sherpa. The venue, buzzing with local authorities, VIP clients and Renault Trucks dealers from around the Middle East, business partners from Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and members of the press, was the backdrop for the Sherpa Cape To Cape, two Kerax 6x6 Cape to Cape and a Kerax 6x6, and a Midlum 4x4 Mobile Workshop usually operating in Saudi Arabia. The star of the evening was the unveiling of the Sherpa for the first time in the Middle East.
After a warm welcome and a short movie about Renault Trucks, Mr. Stefano Chmielewski, President and CEO of Renault Trucks, expressed his delight at presenting a complete Desert Range and the Sherpa, for the first time in the Middle East, among such esteemed guests. Mr. Stefano Chmielewski: “Renault Trucks has a long experience of manufacturing trucks specially adapted to the toughest desert conditions. We have again recently proven the reliability of our trucks in the Cape to Cape Adventure, showing the capacity of our products in all conditions from North Cape, to Cape Town. We will have Kerax 6x6 and Sherpa 4x4 participating to the Dakar Rally in South America also in January. ”
Mr. Chmielewski’s speech was followed by an array of short videos, in addition to speeches by Mr. Mete Buyukakinci, Vice-president of Renault-Trucks Middle East as well as Ms. Elsie de Nys, Project Manager of Cape to Cape; and Mr. Marc Legeay, Marketing Director for Renault Trucks Middle East. These were followed by the evening’s highlight with the reveal of the Sherpa. Mr. Marc Legeay: “Renault Trucks will actively promote the Desert Range in 2010 in the Middle East by promoting the kerax but also the new Sherpa and by participating to main events like Desert Challenge, along with partners like Monster Energy racing who had recently purchased the Kerax 6x6 Cape to Cape.
The Renault Trucks Sherpa is a 4×4 initially offered as a military vehicle only, but will now be available for civilian applications on a built-to-order basis. It has unique features never seen before by any other AWD Drive. The vehicle powered by a diesel engine has no competition when it comes to off-road capability, with a 6-speed automatic transmission, a centralized on board tires inflation system, an incredible ground clearance of 630 mm and a crazy torque of 800 Nm. It is 5.3 meters long, 2.35 meters wide and 2.3 meters high, making it larger than most cars on the road, with a ground clearance of 630 mm. With an approach angle of 60 degrees, it is a very sturdy equipped off-road vehicle, with ABS-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, racing seats and a dashboard that adds a dash of contemporary styling to the functional and roomy cabin.
The event culminated with a private dinner at Al Hadheerah restaurant in Jumeirah Bab Al Shams Desert Resort and Spa, where guests enjoyed delicious dishes and the rhythms of Arabic singers and dancers, while enjoying the venues traditional desert show.
Renault Trucks’ latest range can be fully outfitted as in the expedition, and are now available for order in the UAE.
