Iran, with the consumption of energy equivalent to 115 million tons of oil, was the biggest consumer of energy in 2000 among the Middle Eastern countries, according to a report by BP, cited by Tehran Times on Saturday.
This figure shows an increase of 5.2 percent in consumption of energy in Iran compared to a year before.
According to the report, the total energy consumed in the world in 2000 stood at a figure equivalent to 8.7 billion tons of oil, showing a 2.1-percent increase compared to the preceding year.
North America (including the US, Canada and Mexico), with 30% of the total world energy consumption stood at the top among the biggest energy consumers worldwide, the report said.
