Report: Mauritanian Authorities Arrest anti-Israel Officials

Mauritania has arrested a number of senior officials for their anti-Israeli positions, reported The Jerusalem Post newspaper.  

No more details were given by the report. 

The African country has kept up diplomatic ties with Israel despite calls by Arab league and OIC summits to cut ties with the Jewish states. 

Oman, Tunisia, Morocco and Qatar cut their ties with Israel in protest of its aggression on Palestinians in their Intifada. 

Mauritania and Israel decided to normalize ties on October 28, 1999. 

It was the third Arab League member, after Egypt and Jordan, to recognize Israel - Albawaba.com
