Security forces killed nine Islamic extremists in a raid in Algeria's northeastern Jijel region, Le Quotidien d'Oran reported Tuesday.
The raid occurred in the mountainous Boutecka area some 300 kilometers east of Algiers. The group had been sought for a week, the daily added.
The paper also reported an attack Sunday on a young civilian couple in which the woman was fatally shot in the head and the man was seriously wounded with a shot to the chin.
They were in a parked car outside Tiaret, some 340 kilometers southwest of Algiers.
The attack was blamed on Islamic extremists.
