The new US administration will replace its envoys to Lebanon and Syria, according to a report on Saturday by the London based Arabic daily al-Muharrir al-Arabi, cited by Arabicnews.com.
The paper claimed that the new ambassadors nomknated for the job are CIA officers.
Quoting a diplomatic source in Washington, the daily said that the US ambassador in Beirut David Satter-Field will be withdrawn by the end of March and replaced by another who supports the ruling Republican Party.
The source quoted officials close to the US state secretary Colen Powell as saying that changing Satter-Field and the US ambassador in Damascus Rayan Crocker will be a very important move in the coming stage in light of the landslide election victory of Prime Minister-elect Ariel Sharon.
People close to Powell said that the US ambassador in Tel Aviv Martin Indyk, who has friends inside the Likud party led by Sharon might continue his current post.
Indyk was suspended last year for loose security procedures, but reassumed the post after the investigation finished.
