Rescue workers pulled Wednesday the last body from the tunnel where a blaze on an Austrian funicular train claimed 155 lives, concluding the operation, a local official at the scene told AFP.
The grisly task of retrieving the victims of Saturday's deadly blaze on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier started at the beginning of the week, drawing on Austria's military to help with the operation.
"The operation is over. The last victim has been recovered," said Silvia Kogelbauer, a spokeswoman for the local authorities in Kaprun.
The body was lifted by helicopter to the mortuary in Salzburg, where pathologists will use DNA tests to establish the identities of all the victims.
The victims of the tragedy include 92 Austrians, 37 Germans, 10 Japanese, eight US nationals, four Slovenians, two Dutch nationals, one Briton and one Czech citizen -- KAPRUN (AFP)
