Two schoolgirls were killed when a truck hit them near the Sudanese capital Khartoum, sparking a riot that ended with police using tear gas and clubs, a press report said Monday.
Sunday's fatal accident was the second involving children from the same school in a month by the bridge from Khartoum to the suburb of Omdurman on the West Bank of the White Nile.
According to Al Rai Al Akher daily, the truck hit the girls as they were crossing the road to school and killed them instantly.
Angry people of the nearby al-Fitaihab neighborhood gathered at the scene, attacked the truck and its driver who was smuggled away by police, the paper said.
The crowds then threw stones at passing cars and blocked the traffic for two hours before they were dispersed by riot police using teargas and batons, the paper added —KHARTOUM (AFP)
