The second round of the 2006 UAE National Karting Championship saw over 50 competitors battling for top positions. The UAE National Karting Championship consists of eight rounds and features six categories: Cadets, Juniors, Rotax light weight, Rotax heavy weight and Biland/RM1.
The one-day event took place this Friday March 10 at the Kartdrome CIK certified circuit of the Dubai Autodrome and started with two heats, a pre final and a final for each of the categories. The Main Event began in the early afternoon and was 10 laps for the Cadets and Juniors and 12 laps for the remaining categories.
The UAE National Karting Championship witnessed its closest ever rounds, at which the difference between the qualifying timings of top three karters in each category was just a fraction of a second.
The Cadets final found Edward Jones very much on form to win first position. Tiarnan Okelly and Elliott Patrick were second and third respectively. In the Juniors category the race win went to Howard Cracknell followed by Rached Khairallah in second and Tom Fisher in third.
In the Rotax Max Senior Light Weight category the experienced Christophe Hissette clinched a deserved victory in front of round one winner Paul Cummings who made it again to the podium but this time taking second position. Third place went to Noah Ali Reza.
Steven Mclintock repeated his feat as he was able to win again in the Rotax heavy weight category. David Ball took second position, while third place went to Paul Velasco.
The Biland final saw local Marwan Al Tayer retire from the race which left Bernard Nawfal in the lead with no real challenge from the rest of the competitors. Second place went to Joeseph Hindy while third place went to Gerhard Machtlinger.
“I qualified second on the grid and was having a close fight with Marwan Al Tayer who qualified on pole position. This competition ended when Marwan retired and then I did not face any real challenge so all I had to do is drive my car safely to cross the finish line.
I am looking forward to the next race which promises to be a closely fought one as more competitors are joining, said Bernard Nawfal the race winner and distributor of the Biland Karts in the UAE.”
In the RM1 category, Sean Murphy was first to cross the chequered flag in front of Ali Al Shaiban and Paul Mcann.
The day ended with the podium ceremonies and trophies were handed to the top three drivers from each category. The next round will be contested on April 7 and entrance is free for the general public.
