Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin signed a strategic partnership agreement Wednesday, reported AFP.
Bouteflika arrived in Moscow on Tuesday for a three-day official visit devoted mainly to discussions on economic and defense issues, said the agency.
Foreign ministers Igor Ivanov and Abdelaziz Belkhadem, meanwhile, signed a cooperation agreement in the fields of culture, science, education, sport tourism and archives, the news agency said.
The agenda of talks included military cooperation, involving arms sales that were worth 600 million dollars over the past three years.
Russia and Algeria last November signed a bilateral cooperation agreement on the supply of military equipment.
Bouteflika arrived in Moscow from a two-day visit to Germany where he held talks with German President Johannes Rau who emphasized his country's interest in strengthening bilateral cooperation with Algeria in all fields, describing the African Arab state as Germany's "important partner." – Albawaba.com
