According to AFP, the Kremlin denied the bombing of hospitals in northern Syria on Tuesday as “unsubstantiated accusations.”
The AFP quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying: "Once again, we categorically reject and do not accept such statements. Especially since every time those who make such statements are unable to prove in any way their unsubstantiated accusations.”
The Russian continued by saying that Moscow prefers to rely on the Syrian government which he called a “first-hand’ source of information.
The Syrian government claimed that the US, not Russia, was responsible for the bombing of the MSF hospital on Monday.
"Russian warplanes had nothing to do with any of it," Syria's ambassador to Russia, Riad Haddad said Tuesday.
Moscow came under suspicion after a British-based monitor, The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, claimed that, based on the location of the raids and the flight patterns and types of planes involved, Russian warplanes were behind the attack.
Russia has been carrying out airstrikes since last September in what they claim is an effort to aid the Syrian army’s ground offensive; however, the West doubts that plan and accuses Russia of supporting Syrian President Bashar al-Assadby trying to destroy the moderately-sized Syrian opposition forces rather than trying to destroy the bigger problem of Daesh.
Though the MSF confirmed its hospital was hit, it hasn’t pointed the finger at either side.
