ALBAWABA - According to the Pentagon, North Korea has dispatched over 10,000 troops to Russia to train and participate in the conflict in Ukraine within "the next several weeks".
According to Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh on Monday, some of the North Korean troops had already entered Ukraine and were reportedly on their way to the Kursk border area, where Russia has been fighting Ukrainian troops in an attempt to push them out of the Russian territory.
Recent Ukrainian intelligence reports claims that some North Korean military forces were already in the Kursk region were verified by NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte earlier Monday.
The South Korean president, Yoon Suk-yeol, stated that the deployment of North Korean troops presents a worldwide security concern.
"This illegal military cooperation between Russia and North Korea is a significant security threat to the international community and could pose a serious risk to our national security," the South Korean President added.
Without providing any details, North Korean state media said on Tuesday that a group headed by Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui had departed Pyongyang for an official visit to Russia. According to the Russian embassy in Pyongyang, the visit is occurring "within the framework of a strategic dialogue,".
