Russia's lower house of parliament on Friday overwhelmingly approved the Soviet anthem, without the old lyrics, as the nation's new national hymn.
Deputies in the State Duma approved the controversial measure by 381 votes to 51, with two abstentions.
The bill will now move on to the upper house Federation Council for a vote. If approved, it will then appear before President Vladimir Putin for his signature -- MOSCOW (AFP)
